Hey there, cool cats!
Welcome to my newest blog, dedicated to all things music and community building! How many of you are familiar with the fabulous live music scene currently thriving in Edmonton? One, two...okay, all of you. I never shut up about the music I'm chasing and the only people reading this blog are probably those who already know me personally. So, YOU GET IT. For those of you who are not yet familiar with me, I'm that weirdo you may have seen bustin' a spastic move or two on the dance floor at any of the many live music venues around town. You may have also heard me screaming, "yaaaaaaaaaaaaassss", after a particularly epic encore or yelling, "UGH THAT WAS SO GOOD", as I exit a venue after a show. Some of you may also be familiar with my Facebook Music group, "Kate Knows Where To Find All The Best Local Live Music", where I post about all of the local music events that I'm excited about each week. Join it now if you haven't already! All are welcome to scroll through and post in the group. The page may have been started as a self-serving way to drag people out to see shows with me, but it really is intended to facilitate the growth of our local music scene! Musicians, feel free to use it as a platform to promote your shows! Music lovers, check out the page to keep track of your favourite artists and their upcoming shows! Friend seekers, throw out an invite into the group to locate a show buddy! Otherwise, y'all are just going to have to deal with my rambling and increasingly predictable updates.
My plan with this blog is to share show reviews, write about exciting music news in the city, talk about musical experiences, and get people out to support some local talent! Feel free to get in touch with me if you've got a topic you want me to discuss, if you've got relevant questions I can answer for you, or if you just want to chat about music-related things! I'm super stoked to be writing about something for which I have oodles of passion! I'm even more excited to be getting to share this journey o' fun with all of you sweet people!
See you on the dance floor!
P.S. As a relatively new fan and a non-musician, I am very recently becoming aware of certain problematic figures within the scene. For this reason, I would like to ask you all for your polite and engaged feedback if I highlight someone in this blog whom is known to be a consistent consent violator or a generally disrespectful human. While I want this project to emphasize the positive aspects of the music community, I have been vocal about this type of issue in the dance world and I will continue to be vocal about it here. This blog hasn't been created for the purpose of calling people out, but I am also not here to glorify predators. Let's keep ourselves respectful and accountable. Thanks, all!
